Our popular March is Music concert series is back with a powerful new lineup . Local, national, and international artists take the stage with big music, big stories, big personality! Genres and styles run from traditional to contemporary, classical to experimental, solo to ensemble. Ten great live concerts at one of the most vibrant performance venues in all of New York City: Pregones Theater in The Bronx, the one and only Borough of Music (“El condado de la música”). Curated by Latinx artists with an ear for what’s lasting and what’s new. Only March 2nd to 30th — Strictly limited seating, buy early!

Saturday, March 2, 8PM – NELSON GONZÁLEZ & HIS ALL-STARS BAND (Latin Jam) – Nelson González, Puerto Rican virtuoso of the nine-stringed Cuban tres guitar, and a formidable lineup of Latin music heavyweights, pay tribute to legendary pianist, bandleader, and composer Eddie Palmieri. Maestro González’s many credits include the Fania All-Stars, Orchestra Harlow, Típica 73, Carlos “Patato” Valdés, Cachao, and a long partnership with Danny “La Voz de Puerto Rico” Rivera. Sunday, March 3, 3PM – SARA DAVIS BUECHNER (Classical) – Noted for her musical command, cosmopolitan artistry, and visionary independence, Sara Davis Buechner is one of the most original concert pianists of our time. Lauded for her “intelligence, integrity and all-encompassing technical prowess” (New York Times), “thoughtful artistry in the full service of music” (Washington Post), and “astounding virtuosity” (Philippine Star). Wednesday, March 6, 7PM – MANTRA PERCUSSION (New Music) — Pregones/PRTT proudly partners with Carnegie Hall for an evening of extraordinary new music in The Bronx! “Forward thinking” (Time Out NY) and “a fresh source of energy” (New York Times), Mantra has headlined internationally with notable and recurring appearances at BAM’s Next Wave Festival, Bang on a Can Marathon, Ecstatic Music Festival, and much more! Sunday, March 10, 3PM – EDSEL GÓMEZ (Latin Jazz) — Grammy nominee Edsel Gomez is today one of the premier Latin pianists in the world. His highly personal approach to fusing jazz, Latin, and Brazilian music gives him a unique personality and musical voice. His record Cubist Music pioneered an original improvisational concept based on Cubist Art. He arranged and directed Dee Dee Bridgewater’s Grammy-winning Eleanora Fagan: To Billie with Love. Saturday, March 16, 8PM – YOSVANY TERRY AFRO-CUBAN QUINTET (Afro-Cuban) — In New York since 1999, Yosvany Terry is known as a brilliant saxophonist, chekere virtuoso, and visionary composer who masterfully melds the traditional sounds of his native Cuba with innova-tion, fiery post-bop, and sophisticated harmonies. Indefatigable in his labor as artist and culture bearer of the Afro-Cuban tradition, the maestro “has helped redefine Latin jazz as a complex new idiom” (New York Times). Sunday, March 17, 3PM – MANUEL VALERA (Modern Jazz) — Based in NYC, Grammy-nominated pianist and composer Manuel Valera was born and raised in Havana, Cuba. Well-known in the local modern jazz scene, Manuel has garnered national reviews and lent his colossal talents to such notable artist as Arturo Sandoval, Paquito D’Rivera, Brian Lynch, and Dafnis Prieto, among others. His discography includes two releases as New Cuban Express, a project deeply influenced by the experiments of Cuban artists from the 70s and 80s. “An abundantly talented and imaginative pianist” (All About Jazz). | FREE Bronx Piano Sundays

Saturday, March 23, 8PM – ISLEMUNDA SESSIONS BAND from Holland (Global Fusion) — Global jazz blues fusion with plenty of soul! Pregones/PRTT proudly partners with the artists of Islemunda in Holland to present a one-of-a-kind international exchange and concert experience: South Bronx Meets South Rotterdam! Home-grown talent from either side of the Atlantic celebrate the uniqueness and universality of their musical cultures. Sunday, March 24, 3PM – NEDA BOIN (Inspirational) — Inspired by international literary phenomenon A Course In Miracles, conservatory-trained Dutch artist and The Voice Holland finalist Neda Boin crafts new songs of uplift and affirmation. Her records When Lambs Become Lions and The Light Has Come showcase her unmistakable talents as vocalist, pianist, and songwriter. Friday, March 29, 8PM – ALEGRÍA RAMPANTE from Puerto Rico (Post-Pop) — Queer icon Eduardo Alegría is “one of the architects of Puerto Rico’s contemporary indie music scene.” (Bandcamp Daily) For March Is Music, his concert theater troupe Alegría Rampante play songs of desolation, rebirth, and evolution after Hurricane María. With sardonic good humor, you are invited on “a panoramic ride through the sociopolitical and psychic landscape” of the Island of Enchantment (“La isla del encanto”). Saturday, March 30, 8PM – FLOR DE TOLOACHE (Mariachi Femenino) — New York’s first and only all-female mariachi band features the matchless artistry of Shae Fiol on vihuela and vocals; Mireya Ramos on violin, vocals, and guitarrón; Jackie Coleman on trumpet; Noemi Gasparini on violin and vocals; and a revolving roster of equally formidable women artists. MARCH IS MUSIC / Building on a commitment to present artists of the highest caliber in The Bronx, this multi-genre series showcases the range and vitality of today’s varied musical cultures. Curated by seasoned Latinx artists, series concerts and dialogues draw links between music, dance, and popular culture, highlight ruptures and continuities in form and content, and make room for intercultural fusion and exchange. Recurring series partners include Carnegie Hall and National Performance Network.

BRONX PIANO SUNDAYS / During and beyond the month of March, this subseries shines a spotlight on one of Pregones/PRTT’s prized possessions: a Steinway & Sons grand piano acquired with support from donors and Bronx Borough President Rubén Díaz, Jr. Stellar pianists are invited to perform works of all styles and eras on this magnificent concert hall instrument. Admission is free.
