Bronx Film Wednesdays – Independent films you will love.

This October, BxFW collects standout Suspense and Horror short films by international directors:

  • LET’S PLAY DEAD GIRL. Director: Christian Alexander Moran. 2016. USA. 23 min. Inspired by true events, three young girls decide to bring Slenderman to life by sacrificing one of their friends.
  • DESAGRAVIO. Director: Ray Figueroa. 2017. Puerto Rico. 13 min. A widow must confess her infidelities in her husband’s wake in order to appease his angry ghost and the scared townsfolk.
  • TONE DEATH. Director: Sinead Stoddart. 2017. UK. 4 min. Christopher Price is a brilliant pianist who has many fans, except during his latest concert when he loses the control of his left hand (who prefers to be known as Vincent Lee). Vincent wants fame and glory for himself and will do whatever is necessary to steal the limelight, even if it means separating himself from the dead weight.
  • THINK DEEP. Director: Peter Skovsbo. 2015. Canada. 7 min. Plotting his wife’s murder for the umpteenth time, Marc and Jodie learn the hard way that actions speak louder than words.
  • THIS IS MY SON. Director: John Corcoran. 2015. Ireland. 18 min. Ireland, 1949. A grieving man questions his own faith as he struggles to deal with the fate of his son’s soul.

Carefully selected to illustrate cultural, aesthetic, and geographic diversity. This year, BxFW goes digital in partnership with BronxNet Community Television, bringing our monthly screenings online and to public access television!

CHRISTIAN ALEXANDER MORAN has been working on feature films, shorts, music videos and in documentaries, for which he won an award in 2002 at the Aurora Film Festival. As a Production Manager and Senior Editor at Media Blasters Inc., he has worked on and revived numerous Cult and Horror titles such as Lucio Fulci’s Zombie 2, Takashi Miike’s Ichi the Killer and One Missed Call. He also worked on post-production for Fever Dreams’ feature, “Shadow: Dead Riot”, starring Tony Todd of Candyman and worked on “Death Trance” directed by Yuji Shimomura and starring Versus’ Tak Sakaguchi. Christian has also worked on animated titles including Invader Zim, Berserk, Giant Robo, Samurai Deeper Kyo, 12 Kingdoms and Voltron: Defender of the Universe. He also produced and edited a promotion video for a branch of The United Nations called Alliance of Civilizations which featured President Barack Obama.

SINEAD STODDART is a Graduate animation student from UCA Farnham and UCA Epsom in England. She completed her animation degree in the summer of 2017 and her Creative Education Post Graduate in the summer of 2020.

JOHN CORCORAN was a director of Poultry in Motion (2001). Before that John was a Director of “Staring Tree” shown in IFC Firtcut Festival. In college he was a Camera Operator on several shoots and DOP on others. John is also a published poet and was nominated for the national Young Poet award in 2000.
