A Multimedia Live Performance

The audience enters a working TV studio: cameras roll, actors perform, and a lone violinist plays a live soundtrack. We enter the world of the telenovela, but is the real drama on camera or off? With their new bilingual work of theater, Do Not Turn Off My Telenovela, Anonymous Ensemble asks: what is the role of artists and popular culture in democracy? Can we make a difference? Can we find joy in resistance?

Do Not Turn Off My Telenovela is a riotous send-up and a tribute to the high-drama, serialized storytelling tropes of classic telenovelas, blending live performance with the signature multimedia and interactive style of resident company Anonymous Ensemble. The show follows last year’s Recuerdo / I Remember and Llontop — the latter featured in the 2026 Under the Radar Festival — and marks Year 2 of Anonymous Ensemble’s three-year Bronx residency.

RUN TIME: Approximately 90 minutes, no intermission.

Anonymous Ensemble

Founded in Brooklyn in 2001, Anonymous Ensemble (Lucrecia Briceño, Liz Davito, Eamonn Farrell, and Jessica Weinstein) has devised new performances, interactive media, and unique theatrical events every year since. Anonymous Ensemble delights in creating original works for festivals, theaters, rock venues, warehouses, gardens, sidewalks, and sheep fields – throughout the city, the country, and the world. Incorporating original texts, music, rituals, and technologies, they foster intimate experiences between local and digitally global communities. By giving voice and agency to their audiences and collaborators, Anonymous Ensemble celebrates the complexity of the human condition through collective storytelling.

Do Not Turn Off My Telenovela is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and The New York State Council on the Arts, with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature, as well as the A.R.T./New York’s NYC Small Theatres Fund, made possible with support from the Howard Gilman Foundation.
