I AM A DREAMER by Mario Rosales

Bronx Film Wednesdays – Independent films you will love.

Through fast-paced images and heartfelt stories, new series I AM A DREAMER puts a human face on the United States policy for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). Ordered by former President Barack Obama and subsequently challenged by the Trump administration, DACA is a kind of administrative relief from deportation, its purpose being to protect the rights to residency of eligible immigrant youth who came to the U.S. as children. Using a documentary fiction format, I AM A DREAMER follows the experience of a handful such youth —Maury, Ash, Dennise, Sam— and sheds light on the DREAM Act legislative proposal for Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors.

Series director Mario Rosales is the Emmy award winning producer of Nueva York on CUNY TV, focusing on politics, art, culture, and the traditions of Spanish-speaking populations across the New York metropolitan area. Born and raised in Guatemala, Rosales has an MFA in Media Arts from The City College of New York, and his first feature film, El Regreso de Lencho, on Guatemalan street art and activism, was released in 2012.

7PM Film Screening – Followed by Q&A with Mario Rosales and Louis Perego Moreno (Tío Louie)
