Riding the Currents of the Wilding Wind
October 18th – 19th, 2024
@ Pregones Theater
575 Walton Avenue, Bronx, NY 10451
New York Premiere! Limited Run in The Bronx!
Collaboratively created by Grammy Award-winning musical director Martha Gonzalez, Alpert Award-winning interdisciplinary artist Virginia Grise, and director Kendra Ware, Riding the Currents of the Wilding Wind is an all-in-one concert, album, and live theater performance. Stories from Their Dogs Came with Them by Helena María Viramontes are brought to life in a multifaceted sonic landscape —a mix of Mexican and Afro-Cuban rhythms, jazz, funk, rock and gospel— performed by Martha Gonzalez, Tylana Enomoto, Juan Perez, and actor Lulu Matute. The music is matched by a rich visual world created by set designer Tanya Orellana, video artist Yee Eun Nam, lighting designer María Cristina Fusté, and costume designer David Arevalo.
“Absolutely love this little gem of a theater, I’ve seen many shows there. We are so grateful for a place like this allowing artists to explore their craft and share with the public. I was glad to be back for their first in-person show”
“Terrific show! I highly recommend seeing them. I felt welcomed, safe, and enjoyed the entire experience.”
“It’s my home away from home, because of the genuineness and complete dedication that is given to everyone that walks through their doors. I have an abundance of love for everyone that works at Pregones. Please, go to Pregones Theatre, and you will be inspired to come back for another dose of inspiration.”
