Developed through Pregones/PRTT’s Step Up Artist Residency program, Quarter Rican is a fast-talking production touching on the ins and outs of new parenting, mixed heritage, and what makes or breaks your child’s Latinx identity. The story follows 30-something Danny as he visits the local kids’ playground, cute baby in tow, and engages in hilarious banter with another parent. The conversation is peppered with wild asides by Daniel’s superlative musical alter egos, MC Plátano and DJ Quenepa, the beatboxer.
Performed in English and Spanish with supertitles. Duration is approximately 85 minutes. No Intermission. Book by Gabriel Diego Hernández. Music and Lyrics by Rachel Elmer and Gabriel Diego Hernández. Dramaturgy and Direction by Jorge B. Merced. Featuring Gabriel Diego Hernández, Broderick Clavery, and Arabelle Luke.
“Absolutely love this little gem of a theater, I’ve seen many shows there. We are so grateful for a place like this allowing artists to explore their craft and share with the public. I was glad to be back for their first in-person show”
“Terrific show! I highly recommend seeing them. I felt welcomed, safe, and enjoyed the entire experience.”
“It’s my home away from home, because of the genuineness and complete dedication that is given to everyone that walks through their doors. I have an abundance of love for everyone that works at Pregones. Please, go to Pregones Theatre, and you will be inspired to come back for another dose of inspiration.”
