More About People's Theatre Project (PTP) – Click to Open

Rooted in Upper Manhattan, People’s Theatre Project (PTP) is a social justice arts organization that creates ensemble-based theatre with and for immigrant communities and seeks to develop the next generation of diverse, socially-engaged artists and leaders.

People’s Theatre Project’s core programming includes: PTP Partnerships, which provide K–12 students the experience of devising theatre in their school environments; the PTP Academy, which offers dedicated young people a rigorous and supportive multi-year arts & social justice training program; and the PTP Company, which offers young people and all New Yorkers access to professionally-produced devised theatre. Through this programmatic cycle, PTP participants deepen their sense of power, strengthen their connection to community, and develop the skills to become the next generation of creative, collaborative and compassionate civic artists.

More About PTP Company: Comprised entirely of immigrant artists of color, the PTP Company is a NYC-based touring company, creating original, ensemble-based theatre that amplifies and humanizes the immigrant experience in the United States. As a multigenerational, multidisciplinary company, it questions the systemic, embedded narratives of today and celebrates the art of hope, life, and resistance.

The Sol Ensemble features a rotating, culturally diverse group of actors from PTP’s roster of teaching artists. The Luna Ensemble cast features alumni of the PTP Academy and other emerging artists in their first paid professional roles, offering a pathway to a career in the arts.

The PTP Company performs in traditional and nontraditional spaces, from formal theatres to City Council chambers to classrooms. The ensemble seeks to engage the audience, transforming them from spectators to participants. A facilitated dialogue follows each performance, providing time for audiences to converse with the artists and be equipped with the resources they need to fight social injustices in their own communities.
