César Rodríguez is a mercurial performer with theatrical and musical tendencies. Born in the Dominican Republic and raised in New York City, Mr. Rodríguez’s predisposition for the theater was consummated with his high school performance of Jud Fry in Oklahoma! As recently as many years ago and as Jesus of Nazareth, he walked a very narrow plank 30 feet off the ground in the stage adaptation of The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov. Since then he has kept his feet on the ground where he leads a monastic life as a way of thanking the gods for allowing him to live. As a member of Pregones Theater, Mr. Rodriguez has been welcomed in theatrical productions throughout the company’s history in the South Bronx. First on St Ann’s Avenue, later on Grand Concourse, and as recently as many years ago, he has been welcomed to their permanent home on Walton Avenue.
