Pregones/PRTT’s STEP UP Artist Residency

Pregones/PRTT’s ASAP provides artists access to our NYC venues when not in use by our company. Participation is through application and approval, with selection based on artistic merit and potential, in keeping with our mission to support underrepresented artists, foster growth, and incubate new works.

Who Can Apply?

  • Individual Emerging Artists developing new work, advancing existing projects, or preparing to engage a live audience.
  • Applications are by invitation only; unsolicited applications are not accepted.
  • Up to four residencies are awarded each year. Artists may receive only one residency per year and must wait at least one season before applying again.

What You Get

  • A $3,000 project support fee to use in whatever way best supports the development of your work at Pregones/PRTT.
  • Extended 2-3 month residency, 4–8 hours per week, (40–70 hours total).
  • 8 hours of technical time for lighting, sound, and projections.
  • 4 hours for performance, including call time, presentation, Q&A, and closing of the theater.
  • For public performances: Front of House staff (House Manager and 1 usher), 1 Box Office personnel, 1 Tech Supervisor and use of the lighting rep plot.
  • A guaranteed public presentation at our venue, which you will lead as part of your residency.
  • Access to lighting rep plot, sound & projection equipment.
  • For public performances: 1 House Manager, 1 usher & 1 technical supervisor. Box Office services available at extra cost.
  • Choice of venue:
    • 1. The Bronx: Pregones at Walton Ave. – 36’ x 28’ stage, 124 seats.
    • 2. Manhattan: PRTT at 47th Street. 4th Floor Rehearsal Studio, 22’ x 24

Step 1: Artist Questionnaire

Please complete and submit the artist questionnaire LINKED HERE. Please note that these are rolling submissions and there is no deadline. We will inform people of their application status within 3 months of submission

Step 2: Formal Application

If qualified and selected you will receive the formal application form to the email address from this submission form.

Step 3: Interview

Step 4: Letter of Agreement

Once selected and on the schedule we will set up a meeting to discuss the projects needs and what the space can offer. Based on this information a Letter of Agreement (MOU) signed by both parties will be created.

Step 5: Execution and Post Mortem Review

After your final presentation we will have a post-mortem meeting as well as exchange materials for Pregones/PRTT archives.

Thing to Keep in Mind

The Lighting Rep Plot cannot be changed. Any modifications will result in a $1,500 fee. Residency does not include access to the work- shop, costume shop, or administrative offices. Scheduling of space and presentation dates de- pends on venue availability. All participants must follow Pregones/PRTT’s House Rules and crediting requirements as specified on page 3 of this application
