Bronx Film Wednesdays – Independent films you will love.

Tune in as BxFW presents the best Puerto Rican short films of the 21 Islands International Short Film Festival. And hear from documentary director Karen Rossi, whose short documentary “Machuchaleras” highlights the preservation of the legacy of Ismael Rivera ‘Maelo,” the Sonero mayor from Puerto Rico.

  • BIOPSIA. Carmen accompanies a group of women who must travel from the island of Vieques to San Juan, capital of Puerto Rico, in order to perform breast biopsies. The long journey is by water and road. Amid many fears and obstacles, Carmen confirms the need for appropriate medical services both for them and for the people of Vieques. • EL REGALO. Amidst the mass exodus of Puerto Ricans to the US during the current financial crisis, a young mother with a shady past, does everything she can to stop her daughter from being sent to live to Orlando, Florida. Director: Joel Perez.
  • MACHUCHALERAS. Director: Karen Rossi.
