Pregones/PRTT with R.Evolución Latina

Pregones/Puerto Rican Traveling Theater and R.Evolución Latina are pleased to announce performances of Aguardiente: In Process, a new bilingual musical written and directed by Luis Salgado.
Set against a rich tapestry of Hispanic culture and pride, Aguardiente: In Process tells the story of two artists—one from Puerto Rico, the other from Colombia—who navigate the exhilarating yet treacherous path of artistic expression. In the fight to stay true to their vision in a world driven by commerce and conformity, they face the ever-present tension between survival and artistic integrity.
At its core, Aguardiente: In Process is a celebration of friendship, self-discovery, and the transformative power of art. It is the story of Azuquita and Anis, who we first meet as innocent children, and their intertwining life journeys. Through moments of doubt, inspiration, and the ever-present question, “What if…?,” the two artists overcome obstacles, silence their fears, and embrace their truest selves—all while staying connected to their cultural roots.
Luis Salgado and Daniel Gutiérrez come together for this exclusive glimpse into the making of Aguardiente: In Process, a new theatrical work born from the rhythms of Colombian music, Puerto Rican beats, the heartbeat of Latiné artistry, and the bonds of true friendship.
This first look and showcase production of Aguardiente: In Process is the result of a creative collaboration with participants from the 2025 Beyond Workshop Series + Raúl Juliá Training Unit—a talented ensemble of aspiring artists from New York City, Latin America, the Caribbean, and beyond.

Pregones/PRTT and R.Evolución Latina proudly collaborate as a way honor and amplify the legacy of Miriam Colón (1936-2017) and Raúl Juliá (1940-1994), two titans who helped pave the way for all Latinx artists today.
This showcase production, currently in development under this educational program, is commissioned by GALA Theatre in Washington, D.C., and will premiere there in 2026.
LUIS SALGADO is “one of the young Latinos on Broadway who has dedicated his entire life to both dance and social work” as quoted on Broadway World. Luis is a true leader who lives full of passion, fire, and a commitment to going beyond. A unique style, influence of Latin rhythms and his heritage make Luis a stand out among dancers. His ability to “dive right in” makes him an artist and a visionary who makes things possible at times against all odds. Salgado has come on strong with his love for theatre plunging into every aspect of the art form, including producing. This Puerto Rican artist is a versatile performer whose career has molded him into an internationally established director, choreographer, and a teacher that brings a unique passion to the classroom.
This program is made possible, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, in partnership with the City Council, and the New York State Council on the Arts, with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature.
