Ok, I confess. I use Wikipedia. Often. And when we find ourselves surrounded by an awesome audience ready for an extraordinary concert series, or a great inter-active performance experience, or co-leading a citywide festival with seven other theaters, the one thing that comes to my mind is ‘juggling’. So, I looked ‘juggling’ up and all of it points to great fun! And skill. And proper training.
Juggling is one of the fun ways I describe how immensely proud I am of the work that our creative, production and management teams at PregonesPRTT accomplish month after month. March 2025 is no exception.
With a focus on our Pregones Theater in The Bronx, the annual March Is Music concert series never ceases to amaze! Its 2025 lineup includes 10 live concerts by world-class Latin, jazz, fusion, and classical artists. All in The Bronx, el Condado de la Música. Each Saturday night’s band/ensemble concerts are followed by Bronx Piano Sundays, a weekly, free-admission piano concert by the most amazing roster of multi-ethnic pianists—all women, playing a broad range of musical ranges.
In short, come to Pregones each Saturday night throughout March, and I guarantee that you will dance in your seat, hum, even scream as award-winning musicians, composers and their bands fill the air with the most beautiful music. And return Sunday afternoon, listen to and enjoy the most accomplished lineup of pianists take their place by our Steinway Piano, and take you on emotional and imaginary journeys, along with fellow audience members.
I extend my heartfelt THANKS to our amazing curatorial team: Associate Artistic Director Alvan Colón Lespier, also its organizer, our Musical Director Desmar Guevara, and Carrie Feiner, who lines up the talent for Bronx Piano Sundays.
And…
BACK TO JUGGLING! – Burned is here! I told you! There is always more. Throughout March, our audiences also enjoy our weekday programming by attending our Forum Theater experience. Throughout March, we proudly partner with community organizations to bring their constituents and neighbors to enjoy an interactive experience on themes that directly impact our lives. By attending Burned, a play by Alejandra Ramos Rier and directed by Jorge B. Merced, audiences watch a short play that approaches mental health in a unique way. What’s unique about it? The audience has the opportunity to alter the outcome of the story. I’ll leave it there wink- wink don’t want to spoil it!
And…how about your lobby experience? Yes! Lobby! As you walk into Pregones Theater, you will be received by our cordial staff, and the powerful wall exhibit of In The Spirit Y En El Espíritu: Works by Mariana Yampolsky, a curated selection of portraits by renowned Mexican photographer Mariana Yampolsky (1925–2002). The exhibition is an initiative of the Nueva Luz Study Center (NLSC) and part of En Foco’s mission to preserve the culture and legacy of diasporic lens-based artists.
And…while we are at it, our Associate Artistic Director Jorge B. Merced, working with our musical Director Desmar Guevara, and a talented creative team, is tucked away finalizing the last strokes on Parrots At The Pagoda, our next Mainstage production. It goes into rehearsal within days and opens in May at the Puerto Rican Traveling Theater.
