Villalobos Brothers

The Villalobos Brothers have been acclaimed as one of today’s leading Contemporary Mexican ensembles. Their original compositions and arrangements masterfully fuse and celebrate the richness of Mexican folk music with the intricate harmonies of jazz and classical music.

The ensemble’s virtuosic performances have delighted audiences throughout Latin America, India, Russia, Canada and in more than 30 states across the US. They have performed in historic venues and events including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Latin Grammy Awards, Davies Symphony Hall, Montreal Jazz Festival, the Ford Theatre in Hollywood, the 60th Anniversary of the United Nations, the New Victory Theatre on Broadway, San Jose Jazz Fest, Celebrate Brooklyn, the 66th FIFA Congress in Mexico City, the Blue Note Jazz Festival and the Apollo Theatre.

In 2018, they joined forces with Arturo O’Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra for the “Fandango at the Wall” project. This ambitious undertaking, produced by Kabir Sehgal, united legendary international musicians for a live concert at the Tijuana-San Diego border wall which resulted in a live album and documentary film to be released in 2019.

The Villalobos Brothers recently premiered their Symphonic Project, performing sold-out concerts with both the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and the Walla Walla Symphony. The ensemble has collaborated with legendary musicians including Grammy winners Bruce Springsteen, Dolly Parton, Antonio Sánchez, Regina Carter, Eduardo Magallanes, Dan Zanes, Sierra Hull, and Ana Tijoux.The Villalobos brothers are actively touring the United States, delivering a powerful message of love, brotherhood and social justice with brilliance, cadence and virtuosity.

Carolina Mama is an upcoming Argentinean Singer-Songwriter that blends an intimate singing style with masterful storytelling, integrating the heart of different cultures and a sense of imagination that takes the audience on a trip through time and space. She began her musical studies in primary school, and had the opportunity to sing with Juan Carlos Baglietto, Lito Vitale, Julia Zenko, Leon Gieco among others.

Later in her education, she decided to pursue a Masters career in Film and Photography, at the Universidad Nacional del Arte, where she discover her passion for story telling through music. In 2014, she recorded with the nonet Projecto Nacarola. Thanks to this album she as able to perform in the most prestigious jazz venues in Argentina such Thelonious Club, Bebop Club, CC Konex, Centro Cultural San Martín amongst others.

That same year she travelled to NYC and she was granted with a scholarship to become part of the distinguished program of The New School of Jazz and Contemporary Music. In 2016 she was invited to perform at the International Jazz Festival of Argentina as an up and coming artist.

Since her move to NYC, she has collaborated in several projects, such as the South American Jazz Collective; an orchestra integrated by recognized musicians who won Best Improvisation Student Ensemble for the prestigious DownBeat Magazine. She also created a sextet named Levana, and composed/arranged music from Latin America and Spain, performing all over NYC. Most recently she started working with ALJA (Afro Latin Jazz Alliance) and invited to perform with Arturo O Farrill for the release of this Grammy nominated album, Fandango at the Wall, and has upcoming shows in 2019 with the orchestra.

She has toured and traveled in Mexico, Europe, South America and Africa, while researching the folkloric music composed and performed by women. She has performed in really prestigious venues in NYC, such as Joyce Theater, Pregones Theater, Tishman Auditorium, Smalls Jazz Club, Zinc Bar, Lunatico, among others.

She’s currently working on her first solo album. Developing new musical material through her original compositions with influences from South American, Mexican, Moroccan and Cape Verdean folk music, plus the distinctive sounds of New York. This music speaks about women, oppression and hope for change.
