Pregones/PRTT presented the 4th edition of its 21 Islands International Short Film Fest as a FREE ONLINE event, on April 15-May 3, 2020. Voting is now closed, winners are announced, and all films are still PLAYING NOW FOR LIMITED TIME. Festival curated by filmmaker and media producer Melisa Ramos. Films organized in 5 different groups for easy online access.

January 1945: on a lonely farm in coastal New Zealand, a young widow confronts two crewmen from a German submarine who have come ashore on a secret mission – to get fresh milk.

4. LIFE OF DEATH.

Death struggles to balance his work and family life, while talking about his existence, his job, and his opinions on human beings in an interview from the documentary ‘Life of Death’.

6. LEGEND OF ANCIENT BORNEO.

Four warriors in ancient Borneo go after a gang of reptile savages who took the village’s sacred dragon skull, but they soon discover the untold history of the dragon skull.

7. SPARROW.
New Zealand – 15 Min.
Director: Welby Ings.

A boy discovers his grandfather was a gay man who deserted the army in protest when his lover was shot in Egypt. The truth gives him strength to stand up to bullies.

8. THE KING’S RING.
Tenerife – 10 Min.
Director: Jeniffer Castañeda García.

The writer and broadcaster Ramón Losada de Guillén shares with his radio audience a fable to make them think. But his story will lead to others with the same moral in common.

9. NOON EXPRESS.
Cuba – 5 Min.
Director: Alberto Martin.

A stranger waits for the train in a ghostly station, when the train arrives it’s only traveler, the one-eyed man tries to assassinate him, but the stranger will change the one-eyed man’s life forever

10. THE CHAIR IN FRONT OF THE WINDOW.
Gran Canaria – 15 Min.
Director: Adrián González.

A couple faces the hard moment with all the implications of a transplant. Away from home, they will have to live with the uncertainty of waiting.

A comedy web series starring aliens, animals, robots, vampires and angels performing larger-than-life and often bizarre sketches, featuring a strange man who can’t stop saying “Simon & Garfunkel”.

A man forgets an important date on day that is important to a loved one. He’s remorseful to an extreme!

4. BOY WONDER.

An inquisitive boy lives in the village of Birgu. When the house with the red door becomes occupied, his curiosity intensifies. An encounter leaves the possibility for growth right at his doorstep.

5. THE COCAINE FAMINE.

A dark comedy about cocaine and the futility of nationalism. Set in rural Ireland, three characters play out an absurd scene in real time. Playful humour and hard-hitting historical facts..

Oscar arrives at the hotel “Eternal Sleep” to live the last day of his life.

7. 7TH STREET.
Philippines – 5 Min.
Director: Ivan Brylle A. Pasia.

Gio perceives and judges the people around him, based on his past experiences with certain people. The reveal: the mistreatment that makes him question reasons behind everything.

In the quiet shelter of a suburban neighborhood, an unsuspecting child becomes burdened with keeping a secret that will condemn her to a life of adversity.

A seven-year-old boy is troubled when he learns his beloved teacher is leaving. A day before meeting his new teacher, his sister reveals a fact which further fuels his fears.

4. WHEN ONE TALKS WITH A LEMON.
Japan – 3.30 Min.
Director: Nianze Li.

What I say is never what you hear. It’s like a printer misaligning images little by little. This animation portrays communication gaps using print, digital treatment and collage.

5. MY LITTLE BOY’S COUCH.
Taiwan – 3 Min.
Director: Jack Shih.

A little boy discovers an aged couch in a living room. He turns it into his personal storage, stuffs it with all kinds of things and transforms it into a super spaceship.

6. &BLACK&WHITE.
Croatia – 4 Min.
Director: Darko Bakliza.

An animated project for kids and adults that talks about diversity through history and humor while playing with visual perception. The main character is a funny, curious problem solver.

7. IMMERSION.
New Zealand – 3 Min.
Director: Hugo Lyra.

Under nuclear threat, an ambitious kid must figure out a way to complete the upload of his and his sister’s conscience before it’s too late.

8. I STAND READY.
Montreal – 4.20 Min.

Mio has gotten up and is standing tall despite her illness. She hears her family having breakfast and the city stirring and feels drawn to the outside to seize the day.

9. A WORLD’S TALE.

A young girl narrates a story of a far away magical world with all its wonders, but something is threatening its stability and order risking her to face a dark future.

The elders say the Spirit of Lion Rock is “as you reap, so you sow”. What a thing to say that the spirit we are proud of is being forgotten in time. What does the Spirit of Lion Rock truly mean to us?

This is a 3D CGI animated film illustrating the relationship of a person and their anxiety. Held captive in their room, struggling against their anxiety, trying to reach the door.

Evident as the metamorphosis of a butterfly (Pulelehua), LOVE transforms! ‘Pulelehua’ honors Hawaii’s beloved Queen Liliuokalani, who was inspired by nature & encouraged her Kingdom to live Aloha.

After facing microaggressions in her daily life, Ceci has to decide whether to take revenge or look for answers.

A young talented boxer, expelled from the Boxing academy, is forced to tell his grandfather, his first coach. Searching for him, he will discover tragic events.

3. MY KINGDOM COME.

Highlights the human’s loss of real interaction in the Digital Age, asking whether or not the technological progress has brought more benefits than drawbacks to people.

4. AFTERLIVES.
UK – 2 Min.
Director: Cameron Cook.

It’s one of life’s greatest mysteries: what happens after we die? Everyone has their own answer, but no two are the same. This film offers a visualization of some interviews cast amongst the general public.

5. INANG GAIA (Mother Gaia).
Philippines – 8 Min.
Director: Jecelle Noval.

A diligent student gives value to a homeless woman that suffers through life with being scarred by society but still gives back kindness to the world.

6. PIA.
UK – 13 Min.
Director: Lainey Lipson.

Two estranged sisters are unexpectedly brought together by their desire to connect with their unreliable father. Mae ends up spending an afternoon with Pia. They have more in common than they thought.

7. PEEPING WINKLE.
Australia – 11 Min.
Director: Michael Linhart.

Old Mr. Winkle is always at his telescope observing his wheelchair-bound young neighbor Malvin who asks Santa for a friend. Mr. Winkle could make Malvin’s wish come true, but with a consequence.

8. THE UNKNOWN STORY.
Sri Lanka – 10 Min. Director: Madhawa Thirimanna.

Seeladassi thero knew his ultimate downfall was inevitable, and being a Holy man with nothing to lose. This would finally shake his entire faith and beliefs.

Mo Chou, a neuroscience student, is engaged. She finds David online and asks him to teach her sex to impress her future husband. A comedy about relationships and the randomness of online meetings.

Maite places an ad for a room-for-rent. Choosing the tenant will not be easy. There is only one condition: no one can arrive later than 7PM.

Jessica is a 20+ year-old who hates her appearance and hates that she hates her appearance. One night, her inner struggle manifests itself in a rather peculiar way.

The Crossing follows a Tibetan refugees as they attempt the dangerous trek across the Himalayas and explores what drove them to make this life-altering decision.
