Dancing In My Cockroach Killers

First NYC performances in five years!

Created in collaboration with poet Magdalena Gómez, Dancing In My Cockroach Killers tells stories of resistance and resilience from brazen feminist and working-class perspectives — brimming with heart and laugh out loud humor! Paying tribute to great Puerto Rican cultural icons from Joe Cuba to Lolita Lebrón to Iris Chacón, Dancing is an explosive mix of words, music, and visuals sure to get you on your feet.

“Gritty and lyrical, edgy and memorable!” –The Washington Post

“It reminded the audience that theater can not only be fun, entertaining, and a great night out, it can also be thought-provoking, and rebellious!” –DC Metro

Highlights include the hilarious “Madre de Bomba” (“If I had an abuela / she would have fangs!”), the heart-stopping “Fuego en la cocina” (“Me juró por Dios y los ojos de su madre que jamás me levantaría la mano.”), and a rousing post-hurricane ode to “María” (“As greed replicates / so does resistance.”). Back at PRTT after acclaimed runs in Los Angeles, CA (Encuentro Latino Theater Festival, Stage Raw Recommended), Washington, DC (GALA Hispanic Theater, Helen Hayes Recommended), and Holyoke, MA (Palante Theater Pop Up).

Miriam y RosalbaDancing In My Cockroach Killers is conceived by Rosalba Rolón, founder/director of Pregones and winner of the prestigious United States Artists Fellowship in Theater Arts, and first developed as part of a Master Artist tribute to Magdalena Gómez in 2011. The tribute grew into a fully staged production in 2013, in collaboration with the great stage and film pioneer Miriam Colón, founder of the Puerto Rican Traveling Theater. Dancing In My Cockroach Killers is now part of the company’s touring repertory.
