Vocal percussion and image theater!
Vocal percussion and image theater combine to create a new absurdist nation. With Kid Lucky, Kaila Mullady, Flaco Navaja and Antonio Vargas. Directed by Omar Pérez.
A feature event of PregonesPRTT’s
PLATAFORMA project – The Bronx-Broadway Showcase for Latino Theater.
A Nations Beat is an ensemble piece that takes stories directly from today’s headlines and reimagines them. Beatbox, Beatrhyme, and Image theater combine to refocus our attention back towards the beauty of life.
Members of Pregone’s ensemble began a collaboration with Beatrhymers Kid Lucky and Kaila Mullady in 2014 during La Mama Theater’s annual subway series. The series brings together beatboxers and vocal percussion artists from all over the world. The artists “take over” a subway platform and/or a car to perform live exchanges and improvisations.
In February of 2015 the group of performers working with Pregones created and presented the first installment of the work in progress, then titled In 5 Beats. The sold out audience showed great enthusiasm for the work, inspiring the artists to continue exploring the theme and form of the show.
Their exploration has evolved into the new production A Nation’s Beat. With this new work, the artists hope to define and expand upon the conversations that have become this nation’s soundtrack.
Featuring: Kid Lucky, Kaila Mullady , Flaco Navaja, and Antonio Vargas
