Pregones / Puerto Rican Traveling Theater in collaboration with Lincoln Center Out of Doors’ LA CASITA, present

2017 SUMMER BLOCK PARTY with LA CASITA!

ABOUT

One of our most popular free outdoor events, this dynamic celebration provides a fun summer afternoon of performances, a live preview of Pregones/PRTT’s upcoming season and much more!

Through poetry, music, and stories, a remarkable group of artist activists give voice to the movements working to uphold and extend LGBTQ, women’s, civil, immigrant, and human rights.

Poetry: Safia Elhillo, Denice Frohman, Patricia Spears Jones, Quraysh Ali Lansana, Venessa Marco, Tracie Morris, Urayoán Noel, Gabriel Ramirez, Paul Tran, and Crystal Valentine

Music: Haleh Liza, James Lovell, Melvis Santa & Ellas-Son, Orquesta Criolla Nacional de Puerto Rico, Mapeyé, and Be Steadwell

MC: Baba Israel

12 noon – Come early to grab a good seat, see the artisan tables, get your face painted, meet amazing folks and enjoy the cool Bronx summer breeze.

1:30pm – The performances begin indoors at Pregones’ Bronx venue with a live preview of the upcoming season.

2:30pm – We then move back outdoors to celebrate summer and arts with La Casita. An impressive lineup of artist-activists convene to explore the far-reaching social, political, and expressive powers of oral tradition. Wordsmiths share the stage with musicians to uncover how poetry, song, and storytelling can unleash personal truths, construct identity, and fundamentally alter historic narratives.
